What Were They Thinking?

So yesterday I thought I would make a little gold doing random heroics. It seemed like a good idea at the time. First heroic that popped was Halls of Reflection and within seconds the tank disappeared into the nether. So we wait and wait until finally a bear tank appears with great health but no defense gear on. He couldn't hold aggro and we wiped, twice. I was done.

I waited my time and signed up for another. Halls of Stone popped which is an easy but annoying instance. To my surprise I'm struggling keeping the tank up in the first couple of pulls. Do I have just a Lovely Dress on? Am I naked? NO, the tank is in lvl 78 PVP blues and so I nicely comment "don't forget to put on your tanking gear dear"..no response. He continues to move forward and we wipe as he pulls a boss with some mobs. "So if you don't have tanking gear, you really should drop out of the group", I stated once back in the instance. As the words left my mouth he aggro'd a bunch of stuff and we die again..finally he leaves group before we kick his ass.

All in all it was a terrible random morning.

Permade randoms with guildies are definitely the best option and that is what I'm gonna stick with when possible.

  1. A bear tank should be just fine in heroics without defense gear. They are uncrittable through talents alone. For bears defense is somewhat useful but not necessary.

  2. Probably in any other instance I could have healed him but in Reflection mobs were getting loose and a dead healer can't heal;(

  3. Oh, I'm not saying there wasn't a problem. Just that the problem wasn't lack of defense gear.

  5. I find that in certain instances the tanks take insane amounts of damage - even if wearing T10 gear. I'm not sure why exactly, but some instances just have really hard-hitting trash.

Obviously a T10 wearing tank won't die from it, but I can still see myself sometimes taking really large chunks of damage from certain packs in heroics.

While a bear tank doesn't need defense gear (though I thought they needed a little, but some really silly amount like.. 65 or something) - they still need to have enough dodge and stamina to survive large hits. I'm guessing level 78 blue PvP gear just isn't the best gear for this. I know PvP gear in general also means less threat for bears - so that was probably an issue too.

  6. PS. Love the tank in the purple dress :P I once came to my raid dressed in the Santa Claus outfit around Christmas time, but they wouldn't let me tank in it :(
